The computer motherboard is an essential part of the computer system which controls most of the essential parts like connecting the peripherals and contains the crucial components which controls the various operations of the systems. These may also be referred to as main board, system board and so on but all implies to the same thing.
There are a few things which are common to all the motherboards. The main factor of the motherboard is that it contains the socket or the slot which may hold one or more microprocessors. The microprocessor controls the various operations of the computer like computing, storage, passing data and so on. When someone says that the product is dual core and so on it implies the standards of the microprocessors in it.
The motherboard has the memory unit which is essential for the storage of various data and information. If you want to store the data which you have entered into your computer you need a memory unit. Without a memory unit you won’t be able to save the things you want. Hence there is a portion dedicated to storage of data, which is done in the memory unit.
The motherboard also has the buses like the peripheral buses, front-side buses which transfer the data from one unit to another. For example, take a sort of a hypothetical concept, suppose you want to access the internet. The area which deals with internet may be in some other place and so the system would have to send the instruction to that place. This would be passed through buses.
The computer power supply and the cooling system is also a part of the motherboard. The power supply supplies the power to the computer to let it function properly and carry out the tasks. The cooling system is the part which cools the system when it gets heated up.
