Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last several years, you’re at least familiar with the inconvenient truth that our earth’s environment is, simply put, in dire straights, and that the collective human “we”–as its inhabitants, culprits, victims, and singular caretakers–have the profound responsibility of making it right. Correspondingly or conversely, depending on your take on this unavoidable circumstance, do not make the inherently human mistake of assuming that your individual environmental obligation is relieved or diluted simply because it is so collectively, globally shared.
That said, your environmental responsibility is affirmative, yes, but also reaistic; you’ve assuredly no imposed expectancy of, for pertinent example’s sake: getting hands-on in any wilderness; taking to the streets with any picketing signs, such as outside any ‘offendingly’-menued restaurant or other establishment; expending prohibitively on any “green” commodities or lifestyle options; sacrificing practical toilet-flushing, shower-taking, or teeth-brushing hygienic routines; or otherwise diminishing your quality of life in relative disproportion to either or both your budget and/or its resulting environmental benefits.
Here, in conclusion and by way of representative example, please find three green-keen several of the most pragmatic and readily incorporated environmentally-sound recognitions pertaining to the everyday doings of the hearty proportion of earth-dwellers of and to whom I speak. Try to introduce, adapt, and adopt these veritable earth-masseuses into mainstays of your time here (morbid?; sorry, deal with it); consider the effort as akin to an eternally obligatory house-warming gift to your eternally 5-Star city host:
- 1. Recycle: no excuses here; simply collect on a conveniently scheduled basis your finished bottles, papers, cardboards, and the like, and deposit in outlets provided by your building, office, street, grocery, and what have you, and again at your convenience with respect to location and timeline;
- 2. Avoid companies and products that disregard environmental actualities, notably via restaurant brands continually engaging in animal-testing, utilizing chemicals potentially harmful to human consumers; and often effectively criminally misrepresenting their processes and productions; and
- 3. Finally, thinking about a pet? First consider principally the available cutie-pies at regional/local rescue animal outlets. In fact, even if you’re not innately inclined toward pet-parenting, consider this anyway; too many innocent animals are today apparently destined toward lives of torture or even immediate death, destinies that you have the power to reverse by opening our mind, arms and heart.
